Many people have used the email link available on all of my pages to share their ideas with me. Most often, the GTA improvements section tickled their fancy. Quite a few of their ideas could be worked into missions for the current version of GTA one way or another, so Map and Mission makers should find this a rich source of inspiration. As usual, if you use an idea, give due credit; it's also nice if the person who had that idea gets to know that you like it.

I heartily thank everyone who contributed! Keep them coming!

There are a few things i would like to see:

* Close combat weapons. You always start of with a knife so that you can defend yourself from police even if you haven't found a gun. Other weapons could include bottles, chains, swords, chainsaws and clubs (nightsticks).... It would also mean you could be much less conspicuous when killing people.

* More guns! Sniper rifles, shotguns, mortars (fire shots over buildings and blast things to tiny pieces). Guns should fire more realistically in order to make it harder to kill people with pistols and easier with machine guns - get rid of the stream of bullets and just have the muzzle flash accompanied with loads of carnage!!!

* Cars that show bullet holes perhaps....

* Being able to leap low fences would be nice...

* Off road trikes and quads as well as pushbikes and skateboards for transportation..

* A walkman so that you can listen to tunes when on bikes etc and on foot.

There's just a few ideas off the top of my head......

Andrew.

Great Page!

I'd like the other vehicles to get out of the way when your in an emergency vehicle and you put the lights on. It would be an incentive to steal police cars.

Also: To be able to buy weapons

Also: A kit where you can "roof mount" weapond onto the cars using the same control method as the tank. Imagine a hit with a roof mounted rocket launcher!

Keep up the good work

Stephen :)

I have played many computer games but not many as good as GTA.

Improving the game would be a difficult task. However I think if the charater could enter buildings and perform missions which involved going into buildings this could be fun.

Also I think more of the carrer options should be included like in vice city where you can choose between working for the cop or the rastas (even though you end up working for the rastas anyway. This would give he game a more personalised direction.

Hi,

After hour after hour, day after day of playing gta I have compiled this list of improvements:

- Cars should be able to flip like when you hit a bridge one wheel on-one off or when you hit a sports car head-onish half on half off, or when you go round a corner too fast in a bus etc.

- Headlights & indicators just for fun. (may be a time scale so it gets dark with night and light again while you're playing).

- A speedo option in the options page.

- Bikes should fall over easier, u can hit them side on at about 10 mph and nothing.

- You should be able to jump out of cars at high speed and roll, after all you can come off a superbike at 100mph into the front of a bus and get up again.

- Cars & bikes should be visibly damaged when you hit buildings too. You should also come off bikes when you hit buildings.

- Police should be more aware when like you blow someone away or steal a car right in front of a squad car.

- Farting noises in cars, and other people should deck you if fart near them.

- People should try and get their cars back from you or give you a fight, some armed with guns.

- Should be able to fall off and onto the sloped bits of roads, bridges etc.

- You should be able to take air of stairs when on a bike.

- 4x4's should be able to go up stairs.

- You should be able to take air off other cars when in a car or on a bike (and flip in the air).

- You should be able to fire the tank guns or water cannon on the fire truck.

- You should be able to fire from vehicles.

- The bug fixed where if you push a car off a bridge where it changes from flat to slope it can get stuck and blow up. This may be fixed with the ability of going off slopes.

- There should be trams on the tracks in San Andreas.

- There should be knives.

- You should be able to blow up all buildings like the police station in level 1.

- You should have vehicle transporters which you can drive vehicles on and off while they are moving or using as moving ramps when empty. Maybe Night Rider style lorries which you can drive up into the back of.

- You should be able to drive over bikes in 4x4's, coachs, buses etc.

- Jugernauts should have trailers. These could include the transporters and lorry ideas.

- Coachs and buses should have passengers.

- Hanglider pickups so you can jump off roofs and then fold them up again.

- There should SWAT teams when you get seriously wanted.

- You should be able to choose an option to choose the colour your car gets painted.

Cheers

Chris

The only thing I've noticed that would "fix" this otherwise close to perfect game, would be better police and pedestrian AI. I would think that if you car jacked someone, ran over them and slammed into another car leaving, and all this in front of a cop in traffic, that they would try pull you over. Sometimes you even have to plow into a cop to get them to notice you. Also, If a madman with a gun is shooting off rounds at everything in the street, I don't think that a guy would keep walking behind him. Sometimes the pedestrians just seem mindless.

But again, these are minor problems with awesome game. I could care less about them, I just noticed them....

Just my thoughts,

Cody Parker

Hi!

I like to add a suggestion to improve the current GTA or to make a better GTA-2.

1. Pushing the car into water should give points in the same amount as blowing up a car with weapons - the vehicle will be destructed, right?

2. when hitting pedestrians with the ctrl key - some of them could:

a: either hit back :-)

or b: die after you have been hitting them too many times.

3. Doing crimes in places where nobody can see it should be less likely to piss of cops.

Doing crimes in crowded places should increase the police "pissed-off" rating faster.

When police is really pissed at you, but the cannot find you - the rating should drop slowly :-)

Thats all for this time

Alar.

I thought of a new one: other cars should swerve to avoid you like if you go towards them head on or what ever.

More to come, probably,

Yes, it sure is. Maybe there could be a user mission where the target is programmed to evade the player: get on a car, take a train etc. He could have a car parked in the vicinity; he could go to a telephone and call the cops on you; whatever...

Well, that certainly depends on the mentality of the driver. Some of these guys are going to clutch their steering wheel very frightened and be unable to react...

There is some reaction to the player programed into the game; I see some go straight and run on the pavement instead of turning a corner when I'm around - I have even seen a School bus do this, killing a few pedestrians in the process ;-)

You would have more of a TV car chase feeling if car drivers swerved wildly, crashed into others and have wreckage pile up in your wake...

Concerning gameplay, it might make you drive on the wrong side of the road even more often - perhaps it would be too easy, then.

Perhaps just a little bit of swerving, I could come to terms with that; it's just to frustrating when you crash into another car by a pixel's width!

I'll wait with updating the page, then.

Hi...

Here are some suggestions for GTA 2:

1. Better/more multiplayer options like coop

Two-person crime gang!

Network: How about team play (gangs)?!! Maybe even a "cops'n'robbers" option.

2. More weapons eg. shotgun, grenades! (heheh... limpets!)

Happy huntings,

Peter.

"More weapons" is already on my list. Why do you need teams in GTA? You ought to be able to make teams for yourself in deathmatch mode; doublecrossing is part of the game ;-) What would the advantage of teams be?

Ability to swap weapons? Crimes are added so police come earlier and go after both? Tell me!

I like the driving better than the killing ;-)

Here are some of my ideas for GTA 2 if there ever is one, please listen and contact me....

i have so many good ideas for updates to gta 2..so listen

when you are in the garage you shoulg be able to choose from, turbos and better steering,, high calibre brakes and the like. it would be excellent that way.

why havent any of the trucks got articulated trailers..rigid bodied ones are boring they do not swing all over the place. the graphics are not to brilliant either..the people need to be more refined..more attention to detail and the bulidings.

you should be able to enter any building. and if you hit walls or signs you should break bits of the wall and bend the signs.

you should also be able to rob banks yourself and drive through shop windows and into shopping malls killing thoisands of innocent shoppers.

you should also have excavation kit. so that you can dig holes in the road to stop policemen..this kit should be detailed though..and the operator must feel that he/she is actually doing the digging and not just pressing a button and the computer does the rest.

trees should be levelled when you hit them aswell.

people should be doing more in the game aswell. instead of just walking round like zombies they should be getting in and out of cars..doing shopping..murdering people..robbing banks..having sex in vans and bushes..

if this game is gonna be an 18 then it may aswell be worth making an 18. the game should stay an 18..and dont let none of those politicians tell you otherwise..i am speaking for most of the gaming world here so take note..many of my friends who have gta have suggested the same things..so it is worth listyening if you want to come up with a game that will really appeal.

there should be road works, stopping traffic..school buses picking up children. the drivers of sports cars should drive more eratically..there should be a great deal more swearing and abuse from other drivers..

this is an 18 it is only meeting 18 criteria at the moment because you can run people over.

you should be able to employ people to work for you aswell, so they can fend off the police and run errands for you. you should also have your staff driving a truck that you can drive up the trailer in a car..to safety away from the police.

you should have night time aswell..police chases in night time would be brilliant..

cars should smoke from under the bonnet when they are damaged.

there should also be railway crossings at road level so you can cross them in a police chase when the gates are down into the path of an oncoming train.

i love the idea of the police compund..the police stations should have cop cars parked there. there should also be police armoured vans that carry loads of policemen and dogs to come and get you. there should be more radio messages from the police that you can hear..only if you possess a scanner in the car that works on the frequency of the police radio.

cars should catch fire with realistic..and they shouldnt look the same when they are burnt out..they should have many variations.

you should be able to hit telegraph poles and disable the power to the surrounding buildings.

you should also be able to have a yard where you can operate from, and install appropriate defences to defend against drug dealers and thugs that also should be included.

people should be dressed in different cloths not the same old gear. there should be little things like postmen and paper boys scurrying around doing there chores.

the police compound idea is good..but there should be guard posts at the entrances. you should be able to take a dead policemens cloths and be disguised with his cloths.

there should be prostitutes waving down motorists..and fights in the street. the police should also go for others other than me..i have played gta when there are people shooting at me and hitting civilians but they never get arrested.

you should also have to fill up with fuel at petrol stations.

the trees and scenery should be much more detailed.. there should be countryside and villages to drive through. tractors and other vehicles associated with countryside.. the maps should be huge..gta has pioneered the way in map size this time but much bigger still would be fantastic..the freedon to do what you like is excellent and should not be changed.

the train tracks should be more detailed..no train goes round corners at 90degrees!!!

some carparks should be full of cars say at an airport. there should be more boats so you can have police chases on water..there should be no aircraft though..they are crap in this sort of game and should be left out.

you should be able to climb over fences.or cut through then with bolt cutters.

as i say there should definetly be night time..you should be able to walk round with a torch and stealing cars and killing people..police lights and car headlights should reflect of the walls..you should also be able to switch on car headlights when you want to and not the computer doing it automatically.

when trucks take off there should be great clouds of smoke coming from the exhaust pipe.. gear changes up and down should be heard more in all vehicles..like the classic car for instance..the cars individuality is great there different noises and characteristics are fantastic.

you should be able to get out of cars when they are going faster even if you will die, it still makes the game better because you can do it and you are not restricted by the computer and invisible boundaries.

you should be able to buy guns by the black market or at shops or something. when you kill a policemen you should be able to take his gun. you should be able to undo the tap on the tanker and petrol spill all over the road which you can ignite to get coppers and motorists.

you should be able to roll.cars if you take corners to fast. car transporters would be great in the form of an HGV articulated lorry which has a trailer that swings on the road and cuts corners when you take them too close. you should be able to unload the cars off the transporter and sell them at the docks or to a stupid used car salesmen. you should be able to set up little businesses like car thieving and selling..assasination service..for which you can hire people to do these tasks or do them yourself.

there should also be an on screen map showing you where you are..this should only be available when you have bought the map at a shop in the city..the articles you can buy should not come cheap,,because it will make people cause mayhem in order to get the money for these things.

you should be able to throw hand grenades and petrol bombs into bulidings and have people jumping out the windows and running out the building screaming and swearing to escape the flames.people should swear louder when you cut them up and chase you in an attempt to be classed as a road rager.

you should be able to spray water from the fire truck.

some of the time, the people you run over shouldnt die straight away, they should be writhing in agony in the street with crowds of people round them. the ambulance should bring a stretcher out and you should see them put the victim into the ambulance and drive away. you should be able to follow the ambulance to the hospital and see them unload the victim and rush him/her into the building. there should be fires. deaths, crimes and so on committed by rivals..so that ambulances go out to something that wasnt caused by you.

police should have nail traps like on T.V that puncture your car tyres to stop you. you should be able to buy nail resistant tyres.

there should also be tow trucks that tow the cars away to the scrap yard.

you should be able to see the people doing these things..like they are real people.the city should fucntion like a city with all the various things that go on..the people shouldnt do the same thing all the time there should be a large variation to there actions so that the player doesnt feel like it is getting boring repeating itself.

you should have to break car windows to enter parked cars..say when you press enter the character goes to the car in question breaks the window..opens it..fiddles inside..and then goes under the bonnet and hot wires the car. these skills of hot wiring and breaking into cars without making noise..should be bought off people down alleyways who you pay in exchange for them teaching you..

you should have loads of missions to do.

when you blow the police station the explosions should be more realsitic, with peole getting blown out the windows onto the street and glass and debris everywhere,,which street cleaners clean up.

when you cut people up in your car sometimes they should phone the police or tell there big brother whop comes after you with a baseball bat..and you have to pay him off or alternately kill the.........!.

when you hit things you should make them break or catch fire or fall to pieces. not just hit them, bounce off and go off again..when you hit people in there cars ambulances and police should come out and look at the scene..air bags in their cars should be seen inflating..and depending on the severity of the crash people may die or have to go to hospital..or in the event of a a bump just carry on swearing and shouting allsorts.

please take note of these ideas..you will be saying to yourself..i guarantee..that..."you will need 4GB to run this game!" there must be ways around this if you are as good as you claim to be then you will figure it out..there should be no cheats they ruin a good game..and internet multiplayers are a must!!!

I would pay an arm and a leg if it contained this stuff aswell email me and tell me what you think

Hello!

How about 2 player GTA? It works the same as other 2 player games (i.e. over modem/serial cable) and you can either work together doing jobs that require two people to work at the same time, or one to help the other when surrounded by the fuzz and such like, or you could work agaoinst each other, hunting each other down until, one of you has killed the other.

Hi Michael.

What a great game - and what a great website you have here. Very good work. I just tried the game this weekend (where I should have wprked at home). Ha! I guess I spent several hours behind the wheel in a lot of cars...

Heer are a couple of ideas:

* Trucks and vehicles with a lot of enertia can go through fences.

* Collisions in high speed will cripple the vehicles severely and the drivers have to leave them.

* You should be able to se through the roof of buildings you drive/walk though.

* Talk to other pedestrians?

* Shop in drug stores (buy weapons, booze, ammo, sell stuff)

* Road may be blocked because of work (pipe lines, asphalt, electricity)

* car gangs roaring around in parts of the town (cars with external engines, flames out the tailpipes, and so on)

* more car types, more terrain types (also rural areas, freeways)

* (for control with joystick or mouse) roads going diagonally on the screen

* it would be cool if you sometimes had a buddy who drove another car, just a few meters away from you (if he/she could keep up), a buddy (or buddyett!) who stole a car when you did or who just got in the other side of your vehicle

* etc....

There are many good ides on these pages but don't think it's a good idea to get it too far away from the idea of persuit. Too many weapons, even mounted on the car roofs, is ridiculous in this game - drive Interstate 76 in stead. Let's leave it in the more "realistic" mode. In general the game is utterly funny and addictive. But it also needs many sophisticated details to make it even more fun to play. Most of them have been mentioned on your pages so we can only hope the developers are watching these real-estate.

Keep up the good work!

Thank you!

> Heer are a couple of ideas:

> - Trucks and vehicles with a lot of enertia can go through fences.

Agreed.

> - Collisions in high speed will cripple the vehicles severely and the drivers have to leave them.

I believe speed has an influence on the damage done now. Someone reported driving a counthash full tilt in the back of a bus and getting Gouranga! for it...

> - You should be able to se through the roof of buildings you drive/walk though.

Wouldn't run on my 486-120 anymore then :-(

You could fake it using the soon-to-be editor to make roof tiles with part of the pixels transparent.

> - Talk to other pedestrians?

Some sort of adventure interface with several optional responses; make the missions even more nonlinear.

> - Shop in drug stores (buy weapons, booze, ammo, sell stuff)

robbing stores has also been suggested :-) Mobsters don't buy their weapons in stores, though. There should be warehouse on the docks where the illegal stuff is kept.

> - Road may be blocked because of work (pipe lines, asphalt, electricity)

You can do that once we get the map editor done, I believe. If you use a combination of the pipes graphics and the train tracks logic, you might even get fried when you step on them.

> - car gangs roaring around in parts of the town (cars with external engines, flames out the tailpipes, and so on)

Probably possible with the editor

> - more car types, more terrain types (also rural areas, freeways)

Probably possible with the editor. Is the map large enough for rural areas?

> - (for control with joystick or mouse) roads going diagonally on the screen

a) you can go diagonally with the keyboard, no problem

b) you can drive diagonally on the roads (the zigzag one in Liberty's park comes to mind), only the automated drivers cant

> - it would be cool if you sometimes had a buddy who drove another car, just a few meters away from you (if he/she could keep up), a buddy (or buddyett!) who stole a car when you did or who just got in the other side of your vehicle

A "wingman" (wingwoman) for GTA!

* Do a bank job, let him "keep the engine running"

* drop him at a pickup place in a back yard with a clean car so you can change cars when you're wanted,

* for gang kills in tight places, move in from two sides

* have im "inadvertantly" block the road when you're wanted

* give you a lift when you've sold a car at the docks

I agree that the scope of weapons is suficient.

There might be some fun weapons for limited use:

* mines or oil slicks to drop from your car,

* paintballs to repaint police cars

* police radio jammers

* 0.1 sec rocket thrusters (added effect: burns stuff behind you)

* brake jammer: used on another vehicle, it couldnt brake any more

* steering jammer: ditto

* traffic light switching device

* taxicab hailer

* policeman's uniform

It will be awhile until I get around to updating the stuff.

Again, thank you for your ideas!

Michael

Hi...

Well teams would be good cause you're working with someone that you can TRUST (sorta) and with the cops'n'robbers like one team could be the cops and the other the crims, etc. Another point could be that you form gangs, and they have their own weapons supply coming in regularly, maybe the larger it gets the better/more frequent the weapons and cops!

anyway here's something that my friend sent me about GTA2 ideas (too detailed, i know):

------------------

* Criminals have access to a greater variety of carnage creating weaponry, while cops start off with a pistol, shotgun, light body armour, and patrol car default (shotgun and armour in boot of patrol car), and can call for backup, possible a limited number of times per level. Missions play as in GTA, only cops do things to thwart criminals, and collect some kind of merit points instead of cash. If they manage to arrest and handcuff criminals and bring them in instead of shooting them, they get many more merit points that if they empty their gun into someone guilty.

* Vigilantes work against criminals with access to criminal weaponry, but run the risk of being chased by police and arrested if they kill and innocent person or damage property, whereas police lose some MAJOR merit points and possible other things, and vigilantes can't commandeer cars as easily as cops or criminals (cops can because the State pays for damage).

Missions for vigilantes include capturing or killing criminals

* Banks can be robbed by criminals after the killing of any security guards, and robbing backs brings in a potentially massive amount of money (represented by an animated picture in the top right hand corner, of your selected character threatening a bank teller with whatever weapon they were holding when they entered the bank as the teller loads cash into a bank bag, but slowly) and it always brings maximum cops.

* Cops can be lost by criminals, and criminals can thwart cops in the cop missions.

* Civilian vehicles give way to emergency vehicles with sirens and lights on (ooh Code 3!)

* There are specific multiplayer missions in which you can work as a team with your fellow players (if you're all playing either crims, or all playing cops and vigilantes) and the missions of cops and criminals interweave. For example, a mission for a criminal might be to go and kill someone or other. The other human player, playing as a cop, receives a tip-off of this (in roughly the same time, possibly by the ringing public phones in the case of tip-offs) and goes to stop them doing so. They get points for capturing or killing the other player, more if they stop them before they reach their objective, less if the objective has been fulfilled (in this case person is dead) and less if they shoot them, and even less if they call for backup.

Rain, Snow, Ice, (Winter Summer Spring Autumn). Plane/train crash, floodings, earthquakes, fires etc.

With reference to the graphics improvments; as well as having nightfall and sunrise, you could have varying weather conditions e.g.

rain/thunder storms (e.g. lightening {spelling?}). An option whereby you can switch on/off different seasons e.g. snow, ice, trees turn brown

in spring, leaves fall etc. Possibly the odd disaster, i.e. flooding, earthquake, plane/train crash, fire etc.

Hi,

I think that they should have put in a thing where when you hit a pedestrian they fly through the air and then end up in a pool of blood. The distance they fly would be relative to the speed you were travelling.

How about kidnapping missions? You could drive up next to someone and somehow grab them and throw them in your car. Deliver or dispose of them wherever.

Different types of people would be cool too. Running down children could be worth more than old people because they move faster.

When shooting a bus, it would be neat to see all of the passengers try to file off of it. When it blows up all of the ones who aren't clear go up in flames.

Well, there is a sort of kidnapping mission in Liberty City 2 if you get in the car in front of the cinema in North Hackenslash.

> Different types of people would be cool too. Running down children could be worth more than old people because they move faster.

All that counts is the body count...

> When shooting a bus, it would be neat to see all of the passengers try to file off of it. When it blows up all of the ones who aren't clear go up in flames.

Well, haven't you heard of emergency exits? They use those little hammers to break some windows and all pile out at once, where their wounds get attended to by the ambulance people :-)

Now what would be nice would be a line/cluster of people waiting at a bus stop :-)

All in all, I take your contribution as a plea for more violence in the game.

My website updates are a bit slow these days.

Thanks for your feedback!

Actually, that is in the "Projects for GTA-crazy gamers" section.

I guess you qualify - want a mention? You'd deserve it even more if you hadn't heard of the PORKCHARSUI at that time ;-)

Well, give me some details (how many tiles to a shot, had you started pieceing it together yet, how'd you keep track of where you were); about 2 or three paragraphs (or more), I'll publish it; you may provide a photograph of yourselves!

Actually, we have enough info now to print one from the game files, that was my first possible way of doing it :-)

How come we have to steal buses, taxis, and such? A person should be able to ride as a passenger on buses, taxis, and limos.

It would be nice if the tank went faster...

Maybe there's a way to solve that boat problem by creating a ramp made of water (considering how screwy the game is) or perhaps just a regular ramp or a set of canals?

How come we can't pick up passengers?

I think better vehicle physics should be brought in, I mean going at 95mph down a straight road and then clipping into the corner of a stationary vehicle isn't going to bring you to a complete stop. If anything, you'd carry on, slightly off course, and the other car would go flying. Polygonal cars flipping through the air is also a good idea, although memory limiting (judging by the amount of cars in each city).

I thought they were done that way, but I'll have to watch it more closely, I guess; they certainly take mass and speed into account.

> Polygonal cars flipping through the air is also a good idea, although memory limiting (judging by the amount of cars in each city).

Well, are you looking for Wing Commander Graphics here? :-)

I think in the HiRes modes the city looks too polygonal as it is (flat faces everywhere); my priority would be some bump mapping for the houses...

Hi there,

I haven't got much time so i'll be brief, you can put this into context and edit it as u like.

I would like to see

- AI Drivers making mistakes (running people over, going through red light etc.)

- Helicopters

- Normal missions for a criminal as before but also a part where you can control a policeman killing criminals etc. Missions can be orginal and as varied as the first game.

- make some of the people look like women (add skirts) and children (make them smaller)

- Customize your own colours.

Thanx

But it would be cooler if u could like do mission with each other or something. And if there would be cops and bombshop in the deathmatch too. I really miss that.

Some ideas for GTA2? game.

Why not when we play in LINK MODE, why not can we control the police ? To arrest the other people ?.

A bug : ?? When we stole a lot of cars, they disapear five or ten minutes later...

Why not steal lot of cars, paint them in another color and change immatriculation and why not can we ''open'' a carshop ???? (i love take all car and park them into a same place, but they disaspear !!!!!!!! = argh.....).

What about:

Knock-downable / Blowupable / Driveoverable road signs + phone boxes.

Real kerbs where tyres can be burst losing control.

Rolloverable cars and trucks.

Parking wardens(killable), clampers and towaway trucks.

Real life white+delivery vans that drive as badly as Mundanos (cut you up etc.).

Burstable / Blowupable / Drivethroughable fences.

Smashupable cars when hitting buildings.

Traffic carming measures - sleeping policemen etc.

Railway crossings with puny gates.

Proper Artic lorries.

Car transporters which allow cars to be driven up.

Metal Bar / Baseball bat weapon - for optimum kick shit action and bosh policemen satisfaction.

Variable roadworks and road damage (see British roads for details!).

Writeoffability for all vehicles / bigger and more violent smashes.

More intelligent filth and pedestrians.

Ability to join the old bill and drive filth cars legit (with corruption potential).

Ability to drive into buildings.

Drunken pedestrians causing fights which worsen causing riots (maybe?).

Hi John!

Quite a neat and original set of ideas you've come up with there! Thanks for sharing them with me, though I must admit I'm criminally lazy in updating my website - right now I just stow these messages away in a folder for soemfuture date.

I want to tell you my ideas on your sugegstions now.

John Carlton wrote:

> Knock-downable / Blowupable / Driveoverable road signs + phone boxes.

> Burstable / Blowupable / Drivethroughable fences.

They can be implemented using the current engine in a way similar to the trash piles you can knock about - all it lacks is an editor that will allow you to modify the GTA data files accordingly.

The phone booths might have to remain fixed as they're still needed for some missions - though that would really be a neat gta2 feature: you'll bite your arse if you can't complete a mission because you've wrecked the payphone you need for it earlier ;-)

> Real kerbs where tyres can be burst losing control.

I'd like that one, too! Perhaps the electric rail damage can be somehow used for that, thoough I don't see how.

> Rolloverable cars and trucks.

If you've ever driven a tank you know they are that now. I am guessing you mean they might stay unexploded, e.g. if you drive a bike over them. :-)

> Parking wardens(killable), clampers and towaway trucks.

Did you know that besides Police, Hospitals and Fire Stations there were supposed to be three other utilities? An impound lot (Tow trucks!) might wel have been one of them, but it never got realized.

> Railway crossings with puny gates.

hehehe, entirely possible

> Car transporters which allow cars to be driven up.

If you get driveoverable cars, this is one is included.

> Variable roadworks and road damage (see British roads for details!).

Perhaps a really slow movinbg really large vehicle... ? Road damage mightbe implemented noow by putting an electrified rail section in the road and disguising it cleverly ;-)

> Writeoffability for all vehicles / bigger and more violent smashes.

???

> More intelligent filth and pedestrians.

> Ability to join the old bill and drive filth cars legit (with corruption potential).

I am waiting for a level that does just that - filth will recognize its cars by model number, not by shape, so might actually have the police be THE MOB, with only one car though :-( ; your job would be to bust the mob, withthem getting angry at you for messing up their town. Of course the cop logo that indicates they're after you can easily be replaced bey a mobster logo.

> Ability to drive into buildings.

You can right now - or did you mean through the wall into the living room?

> Drunken pedestrians causing fights which worsen causing riots (maybe?).

hehehe :-)

These ideas make me think real hard about finding the time for an update...

Have fun with GTA!

Michael

Good point !

>> Rolloverable cars and trucks.

>If you've ever driven a tank you know they are that now.

>I am guessing you mean they might stay unexploded, e.g. if you drive a bike over them. :-)

What I meant there was actually flipping cars and trucks over - i.e. lose control and roll onto their roof, over and over etc.

>> Writeoffability for all vehicles / bigger and more violent smashes.

>???

In terms of damaging cars to the point where they cannot be driven, rather than just blowing up all the time. Also, if a truck hit you at full pelt, you would do more than denting the wing (I would have thought!) Also, in real-life pile ups, you can have a variety of outcomes in terms of maiming, smashed up cars (engine pushed into the boot etc.) and mass traffic disruption.

>> Ability to drive into buildings.

>You can right now - or did you mean through the wall into the living room?

Yup, right into those front rooms as their watching TV! :-)))

I forgot to say cheerio at the end of the last message I think in my haste.

Hi John!

Tnx for your reply!

Here are my (unqualified) comments again:

John Carlton wrote:

> > Rolloverable cars and trucks.

I see now!

> >> Writeoffability for all vehicles / bigger and more violent smashes.

> In terms of damaging cars to the point where they cannot be driven, rather than just blowing up all the time.

Ok, the current engine keeps the number of game objects small by clearing wrecks away; could it clear those up, too? - probably.

Anyway, in the movies cars always blow up no matter what the circumstances - exception: the hero is in it, in that case the car only blows up when he's running away from it ;-)

Actually, that might be a nice new feature - delayed blowup, so you can run if you react fast enough ;-)

> Also, if a truck hit you at full pelt, you would do more than denting the wing (I would have thought!)

Depends on the car; if it's rigid, the car will be accelerated as a billiard/pool/snooker (take your pick) ball would, taking up energy that way. This is not pussible if there's a wall in the way, though; the car really should get crushed then.

It also will get crushed if it's a modern car, designed with a weak "deformation zone" that takes up the impact energy by deforming.

> Also, in real-life pile ups, you can have a variety of outcomes in terms of maiming, smashed up cars (engine pushed into the boot etc.) and mass traffic disruption.

I believe the physical modeling for realistic car crashes would be a bit expensive to calculate - if it can't be faked some way, giving rise to more exciting "bugs". (One new review noted that GTA's bugs add to the gameplay rather than frustrate the player ;-)
